Sour Cream Meatballs

I love slow cooker (crock pot) meals.  There is something so great about making dinner in the morning, smelling it all day long, and enjoying a relaxing evening while still eating dinner at home.

Sour Cream Meatballs can be made on the stove top or in the crock pot.  Either way they are delicious!  Using the crockpot allows you to cook a larger batch at a time.

Our family was given this recipe by some dear friends, the Heise family.  We were stationed with them in Germany before we had any children.  The Heise’s had 3 children when we meet them.  We watched as they added two wonderful children to their family.  All five of their children are grown now, and some of them are married with children of their own.

Every once in a while the Lord brings a special family into your life to lead you, guide you, and set you on a specific path.  This is what the Lord did for us with the Heise family.  The Lord used them mightily to shape our parenting philosophies and to teach us what a loving marriage looks like.  I am so thankful the Lord lead us to them.

And, they make great food!  They sweetly shared several delicious recipes with us all those years ago that we still make today.  This is one of those recipes.

Sour Cream Meatballs (affectionately named Heise Meatballs in our family)

1/3 C flour
1 tsp paprika
2 lb ground beef
8 oz. sour cream
1 envelope onion soup mix (or ¼ C homemade version)
1 ½ C bread crumbs
1 egg, slightly beaten
¼ C butter
Double batch Cream of Whatever Soup (or 2 cans cream of chicken soup)
1 ½ C milk
Hot cooked rice or noodles

Combine the flour and paprika in a medium size bowl.  Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine beef, sour cream, onion soup mix, bread crumbs, and the egg.  Mix together.  Using your hands is the fastest and easiest way to make sure this is well combined.

Form the meat mixture into meatballs.  Roll each meatball in the paprika and flour mixture, coating well.

In a large skillet, melt the butter.  Brown the coated meatballs.

Sour Cream Meatballs

Blend the Cream of Whatever Soup (or cream of chicken soup) and the milk together, stirring well.

Sour Cream Meatballs

Pour soup mixture over the browned meatballs.  Cover pan with a lid and simmer for 20-30 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked all the way through.  Serve over cooked rice or noodles.

Crock Pot Sour Cream Meatballs

Brown the coated meatballs in a large skillet.  Transfer meatballs to the crockpot.

Add the soup mixture to the skillet and stir to get the loosened bits of meat off the bottom.  Pour the sauce over the meatballs, scrapping the skillet to get all the sauce.

Cook on low for 2-8 hours.  Serve over cooked rice or noodles.

We double this recipe for our family now.
