Purple Cow Kefir

My children have been begging for kefir drinks lately, so I figured it was time to make another round of kefir.  I have discussed before how I make kefir and kefir smoothies.  My husband has even let you know what he thinks of kefir.  You can see all the kefir posts here.

Today I’m going to share my Purple Cow Kefir drink that my children LOVE!  They beg for this.  Now, disclaimer, this flavor is not my personal favorite, but I just need to share it because my children love it and it is so incredibly easy to whip up!  I also love giving my children a powerhouse of multiple strains of probiotics.  It is so good for them.  I can’t think of a better or easier way to fill their guts with healthy and healing probiotics.  I have a couple of non yogurt loving children (another great source of probiotics, {the yogurt, not the children}) , but all of them love the kefir drinks we make.

If a recipe only has two ingredients, does it count as a recipe?  I’m going with a resounding, “Yes!”.  I kind of have to… I’m writing a blog post about this so it must count.

Purple Cow Kefir

So, why is this called Purple Cow Kefir?  Well, it’s purple.  And my kefir is made from cow’s milk.  And when I was little, my mom made me something called Purple Cow.  For the life of me, I cannot remember what she made.  I don’t even remember if I liked it or not, but I never forgot the name.  Plus, you call something Purple Cow Kefir and the little ones laugh.  They think it’s hilarious that they are drinking purple cows.  And they look so adorable with purple all over their faces.  So, that’s the technical reason why this is called Purple Cow Kefir.

Purple Cow Kefir

1 quart kefir
1/2 can frozen grape  juice concentrate

Pour the kefir into a blender.  Scoop the frozen concentrate into the blender.  Blend well.  Serve.  That’s it!  I told you it was easy!  Serves 3-4.

Save the lid to the grape juice concentrate, scoop out half the can, replace the lid and put the rest of the concentrate in the freezer for another time.

  1. My Mom used to make Purple Cow, too! I can tell you how we made it: 1 can frozen grape juice, empty into blender, fill empty can with milk, add milk and 1 tray of ice cubes to blender. Blend until ice is chrushed. I’m looking forward to trying your kefie version…might have to add some ice to minr. ๐Ÿ™‚
