Hot Cocoa Bar

I am so in the mood for fall, the crisp air, sweatshirts, leaves changing colors, campfires with S’mores, and hot cocoa!

This post is for those of you that have the privilege of enjoying fall right now.  Enjoy it for me… it is still in the 90’s here in Texas.  I am hoping that by posting a fall recipe, this elusive fall will find its way down to me.

Hot Cocoa Bar

I love hot cocoa and whipped cream!  Our dear friends, the Wilkes, shared this recipe with us many, many years ago.

The children and I have made many a Hot Cocoa Bar with this recipe, homemade whipped cream, and a variety of flavorings more times than I can count.  Sometimes we have “build your own hot cocoa”, grab some coloring pages, turn on the Piano Guys, and just color the afternoon away.  It’s one of my favorite things to do with my children.

Hot Cocoa Bar
This was obviously taken last year… it’s still 90 degrees in Texas right now. My children don’t break out their sweatshirts and jackets until it gets down to 70 degrees!  (wink)

Hints
For Hot Cocoa Bar, I set out a variety of flavored extracts like strawberry, raspberry, mint, orange, etc.  Each person chooses their own extract and I just add a small splash to each mug.

I also set out powdered cinnamon, crushed candy canes, shaved chocolate, or candy sprinkles.

Bring on fall and bring on more hot cocoa!  I am ready!

What do you add to your hot cocoa bar?  I’d love to hear your ideas!

  1. I LOVE that you put out whipped cream! Its so good to have at home and not just in restaurants!! And marshmallows. We always have a marshmallow catching game anytime they come out. I’m in Houston, so we have a WHILE before its hot cocoa weather, but we are ready and waiting!
