I am not a coffee drinker. A good cup of joe in the morning does nothing for me, but I LOVE how coffee smells.
I might get hung with this next statement, but I hate how coffee tastes. There. I said it. I admitted it. You can unfriend me now.
So why would a coffee-hating gal like me make cold brew coffee?
I don’t know. I have no idea what inspired me to try it.
But, it has saved me money!
One of my favorite places to stop for a treat is Starbucks. Yep. This coffee disliking gal loves me a good Starbucks. Sweetened Iced Green Tea, folks. Frappuccinos, people. Just sayin’.
What does cold brewed coffee have to do with anything?
I cold brew a huge container of coffee concentrate and I keep it in my fridge. Then, I make iced coffees and iced mochas that are to-die-for. Okay, so maybe I have come out of my coffee hating cave just a little bit.
This gives me my drink fix and therefore, I don’t go to Starbucks. There you have it. Money saved!
Cold brew coffee is so easy to make
¾ C coffee grounds
water
Place the coffee grounds in a qt jar. Fill the jar with filtered water, cover it, and leave it on the counter overnight. I make 2 qt. jars at a time so I have plenty in the fridge at all times.
The next day I strain it through a coffee filter lined strainer into a gallon pitcher.
Hint
I scoop as much of the coffee grounds off the top with a spoon before I pour it into the strainer. Otherwise, there will be a very large mess when the concentrate and grounds plop and splash into… and out of the strainer. It’s ugly. I don’t recommend trying it.
Transfer the strained coffee concentrate into a clean jar to keep in the refrigerator.
Anytime I get a hankering for a Starbucks, I make myself an iced coffee or iced mocha. Wa-lah! I just saved money. You just saw me save money!
I’ll share next time how I make iced coffee with my cold brew coffee.
Until then, get that cold brew made and chill it in the fridge so it’s ready to go and you can save the big bucks!
Rich and smooth, cold brew coffee delivers a delicious concentrate that is ready for all your wonderful combinations.

Yum!!!! I have to try this!!!!
What kind of coffee grounds do you use. I bought some Mr. Coffee by mistake (meant to get instant for coffee punch). Will those work?
Hi Jennifer! Any ground coffee (not instant) will work. I am using a store brand right now that I really like. Let me know if you like it.
We will have to give this a try!!!
Let me know how you like it! I can’t wait to hear what you make with the coffee concentrate.
