A Letter from Pedro

This week, an exciting thing happened!  I received my first letter from Pedro, the child I sponsored through Compassion International, in Mexico!  I had introduced you to Pedro in my last post on Compassion and I have often talked about Compassion and the activities we do to support their work.  I thought it would be neat to share with you some of the experiences of sponsoring Pedro as I go.  Supporting Compassion and especially sponsoring children is an activity my family enjoys very much, so I thought I’d cover it as a Family Fun Times post.

Pedro is a young boy, so the letters they send at this point are quite simple.  He writes in Spanish, and then Compassion translates on the back.  He tells me a little about himself by telling me his name and a little bit about his neighborhood.  He says there are parks and churches nearby.  He briefly introduces me to his family.  His mom is Teresa and his dad is also named Pedro, and he has two sisters.  He says his dream is to be a policeman.  I think I’ll send him a photo of my grandfather who was a policeman for nearly 40 years…  He says he likes to play with his sisters in his spare time.  For prayer requests, he asks me to pray for his family.

Fill in the blank letter from Pedro

I know this is a simple letter on a fill-in-the-blank form.  Don’t be discouraged by that.  This letter tells me far more than what is written in the blanks.  It tells me there is actually a boy in Mexico named Pedro who has a real family, a real neighborhood, who enjoys real things like playing, and dreams of what he wants to do when he grows up.  I have 6 children.  These are the kinds of things that are important to children.  Yes, this letter tells me that Pedro is a real person, not just a photo on a website.  Since he is a real person, that also means the support I am providing, and the work that Compassion is investing, is making a difference in a real life.  I am looking forward to exchanging many letters with him.

I am praying for Pedro.  I pray for him like I pray for my own children- that God will use him to do big things for Him.  If you think about it, please pray for Pedro as the Lord would bring him to mind.

As I continue this relationship with Pedro, I will share a little here as we go.  We have a fun time supporting Compassion.  If you’d like to learn more about Compassion, or find a child you’d like to sponsor, click the “Sponsor a Child in Poverty” button below.
